Greenhouse Sports is our official charity partner. The charity offers high-quality coaching and mentoring to young people from deprived and vulnerable backgrounds in London.
It works in secondary schools, sixth-form colleges and special education needs (SEN) schools as well as sports clubs. It runs over 50 programmes, offering opportunities for pupils of all levels to take part.
More than three quarters of those participating live in postcodes classed by the government as “high deprivation”.
Greenhouse Sports recognises the benefits of playing sports in a city where fewer than one in six schoolchildren reach the recommended physical activity levels.
Research demonstrates that participation in sport promotes social integration, reduces the risk of obesity (poorer children are twice as likely to be obese by the time they reach Year Seven), combats mental health problems like depression and anxiety and improves self-esteem. It also improves attentiveness in the classroom.
The partnership sees James Hambro & Partners commit to a specific school and presents staff with volunteering and fundraising opportunities. All our staff have up to five days of paid leave each year to commit to a charity or community project and it is envisaged that many will use this time to support the work of Greenhouse Sports.
