JH&P hires new team and opens first regional office

James Hambro & Partners has recruited experienced investment managers Aidan Butler and Ed Marsden from Aberdeen Standard Capital – the wealth arm of the Aberdeen Standard Life Group. The duo will set up a new office in Leeds. It will be the first regional office for JH&P, which has its headquarters on London’s Pall Mall.

Aidan Butler was the head of the nine-strong Aberdeen Standard team in Leeds. He will take charge of the new JH&P office on Park Row when he joins next month. Ed Marsden has already started. Administration and support staff are expected to be hired soon.

The move follows the recruitment of a North-based business development manager at the end of January 2018. Manchester-based Paul Cherry, who joined from Quilter Cheviot, has been helping expand JH&P’s footprint among private clients, advisers and charities beyond London.

Leeds office

CEO Andy Steel said: “We have made good headway in the North and were keen to find high-calibre investment managers to support the growing business. Aidan and Ed bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the team. Being able to hire two managers of their standing has unlocked the opportunity to open our first office outside London, which has been an ambition for a while.”

Ed Marsden, a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments, said: “I grew up in York and have worked in Leeds for most of my career, so it is great to be part of this new venture in the North of England.

“I like the fact that JH&P is an independent partnership focused on private clients and charities, and its interests are completely aligned with theirs. It has a proven investment process, and its portfolio managers play a significant part in that.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of JH&P, which now has around £3.8 billion in assets under management.

Delivering on promises

Chairman and founder Jamie Hambro said: “We launched almost at the nadir of the financial crisis. Global investment confidence was shattered, but we saw a gap in the market.

“We felt there was a need for a business that offered the personal, direct service you get with a boutique but underpinned by institutional-quality investment management.

“We have delivered on our promise. And our growth demonstrates that clients and advisers have recognised what we have been building here.

“Now we are excited about the opportunity to expand our footprint and build further on these solid foundations. Opening the Leeds office – our first regional office – is a major step for us. I’m pleased we’ve been able to hire two people as strong as Aidan and Ed, who have deep roots in the region.”

Ed Marsden will be based in JH&P’s new Leeds office.

About James Hambro & Partners

James Hambro & Partners is an independently-owned wealth management group established in 2010 by Jamie Hambro and seasoned industry experts.

The Hambro family has a long and distinguished history in financial services in Europe, dating back to the eighteenth century.

The founding partners wanted to create a wealth manager that offered the high standards of personal service often associated with smaller businesses, while also delivering strong investment performance by capturing the best aspects of expertise and process found in some of the larger, less-personal investment houses.

Today, as well as looking after the financial planning and investment needs of many private clients and their families, James Hambro & Partners also offers investment solutions to IFA firms and manages investments for charities and not-for-profit organisations.
