JH&P hires former Aberdeen Standard charity head

James Hambro & Partners has enhanced its charity team with the recruitment of portfolio manager Patrick Trueman.

Patrick Trueman, Portfolio Manager at James Hambro & Partners

Trueman, who was former head of charities at Aberdeen Standard Capital and a fund manager at Newton Investment Management, will work closely with JH&P’s charity head, Nicola Barber.

He said: “I’m genuinely delighted to be joining a growing business that has established a strong reputation for investment excellence and outstanding client service. There’s a real depth of expertise across the investment team, and the firm’s global outlook provides a compelling edge. In an increasingly unstable and volatile climate, this international perspective has never been more important. The institutional-quality direct equity expertise means that portfolios can be tailored to meet the precise ethical requirements of clients.

“I had heard about the team spirit at JH&P, and now I’ve seen it for myself. I like the collegiate way of working, which ensures that all clients benefit from the firm’s best ideas and that there’s a consistency of approach. I also like the fact that, as portfolio managers, we work directly with charities and private clients rather than through relationship managers – the investment manager builds the portfolio and the relationships, and that’s a very rewarding way to work.”

Trueman brings specialist sector expertise to the JH&P team. He has served as a trustee of a national charity and sat on the investment committee of the country’s first dedicated children’s charity.

He said: “My experience managing charity money for years and working so closely in the management of charities means I understand the financial challenges many are facing today. This is an extremely challenging time for a lot of organisations, with an uncertain funding outlook. Prudent financial management is more important than ever and managing charity investments well is a key part of that.”

Andy Steel, CEO of James Hambro & Partners, said: “The charity sector is an important part of our business, and it’s a real coup to bring someone of Patrick’s experience and calibre into the team.”

About James Hambro & Partners

James Hambro & Partners is an independently-owned wealth management group established in 2010.

The founding partners wanted to create a wealth manager that offered the high standards of personal service often associated with smaller businesses, while also delivering strong investment performance by capturing the best aspects of expertise and process found in some of the larger, less-personal investment houses.

Today, as well as looking after the financial planning and investment needs of many private clients and their families, James Hambro & Partners also offers investment solutions to IFA firms and manages investments for charities and not-for-profit organisations.

It was winner of the Charity Times Boutique Investment Manager of the Year award in 2019, 2017 and 2015 and has won a host of other awards for performance and service.
